Physical fitness through sports has always been a way of life in the Campbellford area. Years ago, the local communities were brought together by "THE" Social Events which were all sports related. For example, each year the kickoff for the Campbellford Fair was the annual baseball game between Hastings and Campbellford. This friendly competition has been passed on thru the generations and still exists to this day.

Summer time has always been a busy time for those who enjoy golfing, fishing, hiking and biking. Historically tennis and lawn bowling have been favourites of our community along a passion for baseball. Just recently skateboarding, in-line skating and bmx biking have taken off, along with the re-introduction of lacrosse and soccar to the area. Of course, when you live in a community surrounded by water, swimming is always top on the list for family fun.

In the fall our area turns to the ice for excitement. Hockey has always been in the forefront in our area as shown through the support our community has for our Minor Hockey and Junior C teams. Go Campbellford Go, is a chant that echos around this area from September throught to March. The players also share ice time with the Figure Skating Club, who rank among the top in our area. The Campbellford Curling and Racquet Club was the idea of some very innovative people a few years ago. To improve the quality of curling that our area offered, these dedicated people raised funds and brought curling out to a whole new generation with the building of their new facility. In addition to curling, they added two squash courts, a raquetball court and an exercise room. These sports took off and have grown in popularity ever since.

No matter what the season, there is always something to do to keep active. If you would like information on the local sports contact Scott Rose, Community Service Officer, call 705-653-1900.
